Kaffarah

Kaffarah is required when a fast is intentionally broken without a valid reason. It is an act of repentance that allows a believer to fulfil their obligation while extending mercy to others. Across Gaza, families continue to face severe food insecurity, with many struggling to access the food they need each day. By giving your Kaffarah through Giving Hands, you can fulfil your obligation correctly while helping provide meals to people facing extraordinary hardship. Let your Kaffarah become relief for others.

What is Kaffarah?

Kaffarah is a charitable compensation made by Muslims for breaking or missing any fast during the holy month of Ramadan without a valid reason. It is also paid on a broken promise of oath.

How do I know my Kaffarah reaches those in need?

Giving Hands operates with a 100% donation policy and distributes food through its own teams without middlemen. Meals are delivered directly to families affected by conflict, displacement, and severe food insecurity.

How much is Kaffarah for Ramadan 2026?

To atone for the intentionally broken fast, you must fast continuously for 60 days. However, if you are unable to do that, then you have to feed 60 poor people for every fasting day missed. The price for Kaffarah has not been announced yet but it will be the same as Fidya. Last year, in 2025, it was $11 CAD for Fidya. 60 Days is $660 CAD

Who is required to pay Kaffarah?

Kaffarah is required for adults who intentionally break a Ramadan fast without a valid excuse. If the fast was missed due to illness, travel, pregnancy, or old age, Fidyah or Qada may apply instead, depending on the situation.

Kaffarah for breaking a promise in Islam?

Paying Kaffarah is also necessary for breaking a promise or oath. Therefore, for the redemption of a broken oath, you must ask Allah for forgiveness and pay the amount equivalent to feeding 10 people.
